In 1978 the Fiesta is the best sold car in the claß of small compact cars (mini cars), which it continues to be at least until 1983 (Fiesta I and II).Q
Compared to its Ford competitors the Fiesta starts slowly. At the end of 1977 only 18.1% of all Ford sales are Fiestas. The Taunus is with 37.8% the best sold Ford. A year later Fiesta sales are 21.6% of all Ford sales, the Granada comes in first with 30.4%. But already in August 1979 the Fiesta is the best sold Ford with 29.1% of all sales, followed by the Granada (26.5%) and the Taunus (26%).Q
Sales figures from the UK top
In the UK the Fiesta is publicly launched in February 1977. By the end of the 1970s it is the most succeßful small car in the country. In the overall sales charts it comes in third behind the Ford Cortina and the Ford Escort. In its last years, the Fiesta Mk. 1 drops to the fifth place with still more than 100.000 units sold each year. The XR 2 is sold approximately 20.000 times between 1981 and 1983.Q

After 32 months one million Fiestas have been sold (April/May 1979).*
On 9th October 1996 Ford published ranking list of the best sold cars of their history. The Fiesta (I-IV) sold 9.3 Mio. times in more the 50 countries and was placed fifth behind the F-Series Pickups (25.2 Mio.), the Escort (18.1 Mio.), the T Model (15.5 Mio.) and the Galaxy (12.1 Mio.).30
